WHERE
Nikiski, Alaska
COST
$2,075.00

The Mission:

Even though it will be spring break while we are there, it will still be cold and snowy. This time of year, is also very slow for tourism, leaving many small towns with not much going on.
Lighthouse has a vision of going to 4 different small communities around Kenai the furthest one being 2 hours away each day and putting on a children’s camp. When it’s not tourism season these towns are pretty much in lock down and the kids are doing nothing. Lighthouse wants to bring encouragement to this towns during a very depressing season.

They had also mention potentially during movie nights within these small towns and doing a BBQ for the families to come to. There also might be opportunities to help with snow removal while in these towns to help clear the paths for the people.

Two other days we would take the students to spend time at two separate elderly facilities. Because of the winter many elderly people become shut in with very few visitors. The idea is maybe sing, perform bible stories, play bingo, and just spend time with the older generation.

The Travel:

We will be flying from Phoenix to Anchorage. With stops, air travel could be a 5-7 hour flight. Once we arrive in Anchorage we will load up into vans and drive 5 to 6 hours to Nikiski on one of the most scenic highways in Alaska.

The Accommodations:

We would be staying at the Light house Community Church. Students would be divided into 2 rooms (Boys and Girls) sleeping on air mattresses, sleeping bags, or cots.

There is a nice commercial kitchen where we would be prepping and cooking our meals.

The church does have nice showers for the kids to use and a large meeting hall for them to play games and hang out with each other at night.
