Day 8: Final day in Alaska

Today was the team’s final day in Alaska and we certainly made the most of the day! This morning the team started with another essential Alaskan “right of passage” and had the opportunity to go ice fishing. What an incredible opportunity for the team to use an auger to cut a hole in the ice, bait, and cast into the hole. The kids had a blast fishing, sitting by the fire, and tasting some smoked salmon all on the ice. Many of them even got the opportunity to take a snowmobile ride across the lake with one of the locals! While, unfortunately, no fish were caught, this was a memorable experience for all!

After ice fishing, the team went out to spend some time shopping in local boutiques and thrift stores. Finally, to close the day out, some local members of the community cooked the team a magnificent Alaskan feast! The team had their fill of salmon, halibut, rockfish, moose, seal oil, and bear. It was an incredible night of delicious food and fabulous company with the team we’ve spent time with here in Alaska. After some cleaning and packing the team was ready to head to bed for the early 4am departure from Nikiski, AK.

Please be praying for safe travels as we embark on our journey back to Phoenix, AZ. We have about 15 hours total of travel tomorrow with an anticipated arrival time of 7:50pm.
