Curacao
The Mission:
Students will journey from Phoenix (through Miami) to Curacao, where they partner with Iglesia Bida Nobo and youth pastors Lucas and Esther Van Twillert to minister to impoverished families. After settling in and first day orientation, students will drive to Bandabou daily, where they will spend four-five days ministering to grade schoolers, teens, and families on Bandabou as well as participating in work projects there. Students will also spend a day of service on the church campus in return for their hospitality. Throughout the trip, students will have the opportunity to visit a variety of beaches and cultural sites including a rest/fun day on the island of Klein Curacao.
The Travel:
Travel to Curacao requires two separate flights, 1 from Phoenix to Miami with a layover in Miami and another to Curacao. Total travel time averages between 10 and 12 hours. Passports are required as is a travel document particular to Curacao that is completed 24 hours prior to travel. No vaccinations are required for this trip.
The Accommodations:
Students will stay on the campus of Iglesia Bida Nobo. All girls will be housed in one room and all boys will be housed in another room. Church staff prepare the rooms with bedding prior to our arrival but it is up to students to maintain the rooms while we are guests there. There is one bathroom for boys and one bathroom for girls that are shared with the church, the highschool, and the daycare program. Breakfast and dinners are provided by women in the church and lunches are eaten either in town or local beaches. Food is varied from all cultures represented on the island and is fantastic!
