Good evening,

It is hard to believe that our last night in Curaçao is already here! The nine days here on the island have flown by!

This morning Jerseley made us chicken and vegetable soup with rice which sounds strange for breakfast but here on the island, soup for breakfast is not an unusual thing. We were thankful he had made such a hearty soup because we worked really hard this morning. Our service project with Open Poort fell through so we stayed here at the church and weeded the garden behind Lucas and Esther’s house, completely cleaned out their carport and reorganized it, trimmed all of the plants in front of their home and cut back the banana tree and bouganvillas. It was quite warm today and the UV index was 11. There were times when I was hauling barrels of weeds and leaves to the compost behind the church that my legs were literally running with sweat. I am certain we have all flushed all toxins out of our systems because we have sweat so much over the past nine days.

We drove out to Bandabou and then to Playa Lagun for lunch. The food was great and it was nice to sit down and cool off. Following lunch we went to Bill and I’s favorite beach, Grote Knip. The beach was quite crowded because it was the weekend but that did not stop us from having a great time. Almost all of the kids went cliff jumping multiple times and finally Bill, Lucas, and I were tired of treading water and supervising the jumps (not to mention that our skin was completely pruned) so we ended the jumping and just swam, snorkeled, and sunbathed for the last time. Grote Knip has lots of shade trees and there are also pigs so everyone enjoyed the piglets and their mama. Reluctantly we packed up our beach gear and got back in the van to drive to the church for a shower and dinner.

Dinner tonight was our 6th annual BBQ in Lucas and Esther’s backyard. Jerseley made coleslaw, green salad, potato wedges, and garlic bread to accompany all of the meat Lucas barbecued for us. The feast included chicken kabobs with peanut sauce, filet, tenderloin, rack of lamb, and ribeye. We ate very well!! After dinner we drove to Bella Italia for gelato and live music played by two of the members of the church worship team. I believe everyone was at or near bursting at the seams or quickly approaching a food coma! When we returned to the church we did our devotions and debrief and I sent everyone off to pack and get some sleep.

Wishing our time here was not over,
Lisa
