Kenya 2024
The Mission:
The main objective of this mission to show kids (ages 4 to 10) the love of Christ through VBS. Some components of VBS in the past have been: sports, games, dance, music and story-telling. You can expect to expend a lot of energy in the sun or non-air-conditioned rooms. You may also get quite dusty as there is no grass.
You will also walk hand-in-hand with students to their homes in the slums. You will meet their families, see where they live, and pray with them. This can be an uncomfortable experience, but many students say this is the most impactful aspect of the trip.
The Travel:
You can expect to spend LOTS of time traveling to/from Kenya. It will typically be 3 separate flights, 2 of which may be 7+ hours.
You will need a passport. Required vaccinations and eVisas may change from year to year and can be checked on the embassy website.
The Accommodations:
You will stay at the MOHI guesthouse with 1 to 3 roommates per room. The staff will make the beds and clean the room every day. There is one bathroom per room with a mirror and (sometimes) hot water.
The guesthouse provides breakfast in the mornings. They will have food like pancakes, bacon, and potatoes. Dinner will be served at the guesthouse almost every day. You can expect beef or chicken, rice, potatoes, and fresh fruit.
Lunch is served at the MOHI school. The most common meal served is rice with beef stew and a side of cabbage.
