The Mission:

The main objective of this mission trip is to show the love of Christ to those on the Island of Helene. Helene (Santa Elena) is a small English-speaking island, part of the Bay Islands, about two miles long and one mile wide, located 30 miles off the northern coast of mainland Honduras.

The team will stay in the MEI campus housing that sits in the middle of Helene. You can expect a lot of heat and humidity, no air conditioning, and a beautiful island that is often littered with trash. You will find families in great need of love, compassion, and hope.

While this trip will present its own unique challenges, student's return believing they have truly made an eternal difference in the life of those in Helene, Honduras.

The Travel:

You will need to be prepared for a lot of travel as we journey to Helene. It takes around a day and a half of travel to reach the island. We begin in Pheonix with a plane ride to Roatan, a long bus ride to the dock, an hour boat ride to the island, and finally a small hike to the MEI campus. Helene truly captures the meaning of REMOTE island!

The Accommodations:

We will stay in the MEI housing. You should be prepared for hot and humid rooms. You will sleep in bunk beds with about 7 people in each room. Since water is precious on the island, showers will be limited each day. You can expect amazing island food prepared by the locals each day. The communal aspect of the island has the expectation that everyone helps to clean up after meals.
