Bon nochi,

Whew! Today was full and we are completely worn out! This morning Jerseley our cook prepared a traditional European breakfast with meats, cheeses, assorted breads, and fruits to fuel us for our first work project. Our focus today was on projects around the church campus and youth center as well as Lucas and Esther’s backyard and garden. One group worked with Mr. Miller and Lucas to build a platform for the drums in order to elevate the drummer on the stage. They completed the project and the drummer (Daniel) practiced for quite a while this afternoon after the platform had been installed. Another group moved furniture from a second floor classroom to a classroom on the first floor in conjunction with changing out curtains. When they were done, they spent the rest of the morning helping me haul compost from Lucas and Esther’s backyard to a compost pile across the church campus. Yet another group emptied a shipping container, cleaned it out, even the rats (yes, live rats), sorted through what was damaged from flooding and then cleaned all the remaining salvageable goods so they could rearrange everything back inside the container again. The rest of the team raked leaves, pulled weeds, and hauled away trash. Bill and I are so proud of the whole team! They worked from 8:15-1:25 with one 15 minute break. This was no small feat in the heat and humidity (Temp today was 86 degrees with 87% humidity, UV rating today was 11)! All projects complete, we headed to Daaiboii Baai for lunch, sun, and swimming. Several of us were able to swim with sea turtles which was an unexpected treat. The time in the azure water of the bay was a well deserved reward for our morning efforts. Sun kissed and sleepy we packed up and returned to the church. Jerseley made us pasta, Caesar salad, and garlic bread for dinner with island fresh watermelon for dessert. We followed dinner with evening devotions and a movie. Time to get some sleep!

God bless you,

Lisa
