Day #2: Settling in, Serving our Host Church, and seeing all that the Kenai Peninsula has to offer.

Today was another gorgeous day in Nikiski. At a high of 27 degrees and nothing but blue skies and sunshine, the locals were marveling at the abnormally gorgeous weather for the season. What a blessing to have our first two days be so optimal to take in the splendor of all God has created in Alaska!

A large portion of our first morning here was spent settling into our new “home”. After settling in, our team set out to visit another local ministry, The Compass. This ministry was created as a conduit to build community amongst the locals while sharing the love of Christ. This is also the building in which our team will be hosting a free 3-day art camp for local kids ages ranging from 5 years old to 18. Our team will be utilizing this creative camp as an avenue to minister to the youth in the area, by focusing on God’s creation.

After our visit to The Compass, our team headed to the town of Kenai to visit the local Russian Orthodox Church. It was incredible to see the rich history of the area and the origins of religion amongst the Alaskan natives. After our visit at the church, we made a very *brisk* stop to see the breathtaking view on the beach of Cove Inlet.

Upon returning from our outing, the team was put to work serving our host church. We were able to clean, organize, and generally assist with any and all needs that the church possessed during this time.

What an INCREDIBLE group of students we have in Team Alaska! Each and every one of them jumped in with both feet, eager to serve in any way needed - no matter how large or small the task. We are grateful for their servants hearts and their zeal to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Tomorrow will consist of attending our host church’s service where we will meet and worship with their congregation. We will also be participating in activities with their youth group in the evening time, with opportunity for the team to share their testimony. We are eager to commune with them and spread the hope of Christ in any and every interaction that the Lord has for us.

Pray for continued health and safety among our team. Also, join with us in praying for the upcoming art camps. Pray that word will get out to the locals and that the Lord fills the seats with kids that need His word, truth, and encouragement.
