Today we went into the village to put on an eyeglass clinic in the first village while also having two groups of students go to the school to lead some smaller groups in the gospel message. The VC kids did an amazing job putting motions to the colors of the bracelets we’ve been handing out to teach this! After this morning activity was done we all went out to the soccer field and played for a couple hours while the teachers were able to clean and organize their classrooms and the eyeglass clinic continued.
We went back to the boat and several of us jumped off the back to swim for a while. While it was refreshing, there was always the fear of alligators of piranha getting us. ;)
While resting, the boat moved to our second community, while we hung out on the boat and took some much needed naps after a very hot day…unlike last year we have not experienced any rain, so it has just been HOT & HUMID. That afternoon we then went out onto the new island going door to door telling families about the movie we were hosting that evening and the medical and eyeglass clinic we’d be hosting the next day. Some of our groups even had the chance to evangelize while making that invitation.
We came back to the boat, ate some dinner, then split into two groups for our evening activity.
One group walked up to the church and we put on the movie “Breakthrough” for the people in the village to watch. It was packed in the church! The second group stayed on the boat and sorted medicine to prepare for our medical clinic the next day. We had fun preparing for this.
So far the trip has been going very well and this group of students has done a great job! Even without service and with very hot weather, there has been very little complaining. They are serving well, they get along, they are laughing, and playing games all the time.
We also had our first student led devo today by Sam, Will, and Zach, who focused on Psalm 142. They got us hooked by asking us who of us have been in a cave? Who has been chased into a cave? And who has had their family chase us into a cave trying to kill us? Then continued by talking about some of their harder moments, like David, where they had to take refuge in the Lord. It was an excellent devo filled with truth & humor.
We are looking forward to hosting the medical & eyeglass clinic tomorrow morning!
