Day 1 - Welcome to MOHI

Wow, what a start to our time here! Getting up this morning was a struggle, but the breakfast the MOHI Guesthouse staff cooked us was the perfect start to the day!

The team headed over to the Mathare community and listened to a very informative presentation on MOHI (Missions of Hope International). Peter told us all about the history, heart, and vision of the organization. He also helped us grasp the 4 pillars of MOHI (educate, empower, restore, and redeem).

After orientation, we split into groups of about 4 and got a tour of the Mathare slum, school, and other MOHI ministries onsite. Each tour was lead by a social worker from MOHI. We learned about the area, history, and challenges facing Mathare, as well as many other slums. Each group also had the opportunity to visit homes of families with children at the MOHI schools. We met mothers, learned about their lives, and got to pray for them.

Afterwards, we finished our day buying souvenirs in the MOHI store. These purchases directly support MOHI, as well as the artisan who made the item! So, money well spent!

Needless to say, everyone is exhausted. MOHI cooked us a nice dinner. Now, it's time for early bed and an early start tomorrow. We're getting ready to SERVE!
