The Mission:

The main objective of this mission is to serve and witness to the people in the Dominican Republic, both Dominican and Haitian. You can expect to go to a Dominican (or Haitian) church on Sunday with MOH orientation in the afternoon, have two paint days (serving the community by painting a church or a house of one of the members of the church), and two days of strategic ministry time (meeting with people in the neighborhood and witnessing to them) in the morning, accompanied with either VBS or a sports camp with neighborhood children in the afternoon.

The Travel:

This trip is in about the mid-range of travel, about 12 hours. You can expect us to fly out early Saturday morning, and arrive in the Dominican Republic in the evening Saturday night with a layover on the east coast in between. On the way home, the travel time is roughly the same, but due to the time difference we will most likely arrive home in time for dinner. You will need a passport and will have to fill out an immigration/emmigration form before arriving.

The Accommodations:

You will stay in one of the cabins on campus at mission of hope. Each cabin has multiple large bedrooms that have a ton of bunk beds (about 12-14 people per bedroom), and an adjoining bathroom with multiple toilets, sinks, and showers. You're definitely sharing space but it doesn't feel cramped. Additionally each cabin has a main room for recreation, with couches, tables, as well as ping pong and foosball (among other amenities).
The food (other than lunch) is definitely something to look forward to. Breakfast is fairly typical breakfast foods (eggs, toast, bananas/local fruit, cereal, oatmeal, etc.) Lunch is boring (PB+J and chips every day, but it has to be since you're eating lunch on the bus in the community), but the dinner is incredible every day. Mission of Hope hires local cooks to come and prepare traditional Dominican meals (or occasionally meals with a Dominican twist) for dinner every day. Almost everyone calls the food a highlight of the trip.
