Last Days at Baba Dogo

We finished up our last two days in Kenya working at the Baba Dogo school with a final day of VBS and a few rousing games of football, or soccer for us Americans. On Monday, the Valley kids were broken up again into the 5 different stations to work with kids around the ages of 9-12. Although they were pretty tired they powered through and finished strong, working to create a fun and life-giving experience to the children they were serving. We were celebrating the birthdays of Lorden and Hudson Pickett, and everyone at Baba Dogo worked to make them feel special by singing to them several times, making them cards, and praying over them. On home visits that day a few Valley students witnessed a mother of one of the kids give her life to Christ, which was a highlight of their trip. That night back at the guest house during devotional time the students gave one another shout outs, encouraging each other over the way they saw the Lord use them throughout the trip. The students had no shortage of compliments for their peers, as they called out the best in people from different grades and friend groups, exemplifying how trips like this bring people together.
On Tuesday, we went back to the Baba Dogo school for the last time to play soccer with the older kids. The girls and boys broke up into their respective teams and faced off against the MOHI students. While our students have size and athleticism on their side, they did not have as much technical ability as soccer is a major sport in Kenya. The boys teams pulled out one victory but lost in their second game. The girls won at least one game and the result of the other is unknown. Lastly, we had a staff and chaperone game where the adults and seniors faced off while all the students watched. After all the soccer games, the students at the Baba Dogo school put on several performances for us before sending us off. They reminded us that we will always have a home with them in Kenya and welcomed us to come back again. Everyone then said goodbye to the MOHI students they had grown close to and boarded the bus to go pack up all of our stuff before heading to the airport. We safely got on our flight to London and are now preparing for the last leg of our trip, as we will soon board our flight from London back to good old Phoenix.
