Hallo allemaai,
I will start with apologies as I was informed today that none of my posts were showing up. I have been posting every night but apparently I was having WiFi issues and between that and my iPad needing to be rebooted, things were not showing up. If you do not see a post, please know I am posting and it is a connectivity issue.
Today was yet another full day of service, a walking tour of the street art in town, a first glimpse of the swinging bridge and Curaçao waterfront which have been deemed a UNESCO heritage site. Following devotions and our delicious variety of breakfast sandwiches, we headed to Emmy Berthold Elementary school which is a Christian school in Lucas and Esther’s neighborhood. Our task was to refresh the kindergarten playground. We began by sanding down all of the equipment and then spent four hours painting it. It was a very messy (oil-based paints) but satisfying project and when we were done, the kindergarten class sang a thank you song to us and blew us kisses :). Project complete, we headed in to town where we had traditional Curacaoan food at Plasa Bieu. The food was delicious and I saw a lot of very clean plates.
Bellies full, Lucas took us on a walking tour of Otrabanda where we saw gorgeous murals along the alleys and streets. While walking, we stopped to cool down with a bit of gelato and then headed to the port to watch the swinging bridge and view the street vendor’s wares. The students then broke up into three groups and spent an hour exploring and picking up a few souvenirs. On the way back to the church, we saw Lucas’ friend selling awa di lamunchi (essentially a limeade made with fresh fruit) so Lucas treated all of us. It was really refreshing!
Jerseley made another incredible meal of prawn crackers/shrimp chips, fried rice with pork, rice noodles, and marinated chicken with peanut sauce. He is truly blessing us and we certainly have not been preoccupied with hunger pains. Dinner was followed by our evening devotions and debriefing. The students are currently playing spoons and we will head to bed soon.
In Him,
Lisa
