Wow, what a Sunday!!! We started the morning with breakfast, then put on our Sunday best and headed to the church we will be serving for the next 4 days. It is a Haitian church in the southeast part of Santiago, in the neighborhood of Hato Mayor. There were about 90 people there including us, which made seating tight, but it did not affect the attitude of worship!! The service lasted about 2 hours and 15 minutes, with most of it being worshiping God, and the Pastor delivered a sermon from the book of Ruth (translated for us by our MOH staffer for the day, Stephen).
After that it was back to camp for a lunch of chicken pasta salad, followed by training for the evangelism we will be doing tomorrow. We had free time until dinner, mostly filled with basketball (yes, we won) and more time hanging out on campus. Dinner tonight was a traditional Haitian meal of Chicken served with a rice/beans mix, with a red sauce, spicy coleslaw and plantains. Post-dinner we had a “welcome party” of making s’mores over a fire and getting to know some of the other groups that are here (Turning Point Church in Florida and a group from Texas A&M). After our devotional, we had free time the rest of the night, but you’ll have to ask our students what they did because I turned in early to get some sleep 😂 (had to wake up to write this).
I’m looking forward to telling you the stories of what God does tomorrow.
