Today was equally both long and thrilling for our team as we set out to make the trek from Phoenix, AZ to Nikiski, AK. After two (thankfully) uneventful flights, we arrived in Anchorage 1 hour ahead of schedule! Our team was thrilled to take in the gorgeous, snowy landscape while enjoying the brisk 31 degree, sunny weather after being cooped up inside for the majority of the day.
We met up with our “on the ground” Alaska crew and stopped in Anchorage for a quick dinner and jaunt in the snow prior to loading back into the vehicles for our 3 hour drive to the Kenai peninsula to the town of Nikiski. While the drive was long, it was not lacking in a constant, ever-changing array of gorgeous scenery and quality team bonding.
Our team is beyond grateful to have arrived safely to our destination. Praise God for His protection and provision today. While we are tired from a day of travel, we are all equally excited to begin working in this beautiful state!
Tomorrow will consist of serving amongst our host church in any practical areas that we can, as well as a trip to a Russian Orthodox Church to learn more about the origins of religion in the area.
Pray for continued unity among our VCS team and the team of people we are working with in Nikiski. Please also pray that our team will settle quickly into the environment here and be ready to embrace all that God has for them during these next days.
