Thursday: Homeless Ministry

In the afternoon, we returned to the city of Piraeus to work with the homeless ministry of Mercy House. Run by an evangelical church of no more than 60 people, they serve 30 to 40 homeless people each day, Monday through Thursday! They provide coffee, tea, toast, and other snacks as well as haircuts, showers, and clothes. Before we met their physical needs, Pavlos, the pastor of the church, led an informal service. It started with Mr. Anderson explaining our ENGAGE program, Mrs. Anderson singing two songs, and then Micah and Brayden giving a short testimony (all of this through translation). Then our students participated in the ministry by helping serve the food and talking with the people. It was a very practical opportunity of “loving our neighbor” and several groups were able to pray with people there.
