Westpunt Tour Day

He has made everything beautiful in its time!

Today was a day filled with opportunities to view the beauty of the West end of the island. Stella started our day with a devotion over Psalm 30:6, reminding us to be fixed on Christ. Always being careful when we are prospering not to take Him for granted and when trials do appear; to remember they are often sent in His mercy. Devotions were followed by an incredible breakfast prepared by Jerseley. We had choices of fried, over-easy, or hard boiled eggs, Dutch sausage wrapped with phyllo dough, croissants, baguettes, lox, cream cheese, assorted deli meats, cheese, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and pineapple. Everyone was stuffed when we climbed into the van to tour the West end of the island!

Our tour began with a hike to the Kueba di Indjan. In order to enter the area where the cave is located, we had to pass through a family’s ranch where they raise lots of goats and peacocks. The kids were so cute running around with their mothers. The cave was nestled inside a cliff close to the rough coast on the West end of the island and it was full of stalactites, stalagmites, and bats. Then we drove a short way and stopped to look at the rough coast (the North side of the island) and watch the waves crash against the lava and coral cliffs. It was a spectacular sight! Next we went to Playa Forti where Lucas did a photo shoot and took pictures of each of the students by the cliffs as well as the ocean. I am excited to see the photos from this gorgeous location! This beach is unique in that it is covered in small smooth stones rather than coral and shells like most of the beaches on the South side of the island. Photos complete, it was back to the West end to see the Watamula (a blowhole along the rough coast). While at the Watamula, we took a team picture on a huge rock painted with the flag of Curaçao. After all the walking and exploring it was time to have lunch so we went back to Playa Forti and ate at the restaurant hanging over the edge of the cliff above the ocean. It was a breathtaking view of the ocean and the coast. While we enjoyed the food and azure waters, the Lord provided entertainment in the form of two different groups of dolphins, several iguanas, and cliff jumpers.

Bellies full and van loaded, we headed back in to Wilhelmstad for a bit of shopping for souvenirs. Almost everyone fell asleep. When we got to town, we took another team picture in front of the Curaçao sign. Then we went off in groups to buy shirts, hats, bracelets, etc. for friends and family. At five we drove back to the Youth Center to shower and have dinner. Jerseley blessed us once again with a feast of short ribs, mashed potatoes, green beans, and mango and lemon popsicles for dessert.

The team is now playing mafia before they turn in. It is going to be an early night because we have to be up at 5:00 am for our trip to Klein Curaçao.

Praising God for such a great group of kids,
Lisa
