VBS Day 1

Today we went to MOHI’s Baba Dogo school and put on a VBS for the kids there. When we first arrived, we were greeted by a ceremony where children from the school performed a song and dance for us and recited a poem for us. During the song the children came into the audience and took us by the hand to go and dance with them. Averi and Daniel made everyone laugh as they copied the moves of one the students and got really into the dance. After the introductory ceremony we broke into 5 different VBS stations: Sports, Games, Bible, Dance, and Science. Today we worked with the youngest kids at the school starting at the age of 4. We went through 10 rotations, each group seeing about 15 kids at a time.
After VBS in small groups, we had lunch at the school, during which a few of the students got the opportunity to meet the children they sponsor. MOHI has a sponsorship program, where someone can sponsor a specific child in the school and work with MOHI to provide what that child and their family may need. Shayah, Colton, Rylee, and Mr. Mehner all got to have lunch with the children they (or their sibling) sponsor and talk about how they are doing and being able to see firsthand the way they are growing with the help of MOHI and the money they are personally donating. It was definitely a special moment for everyone to get to see the effect that giving can have.We then walked some of the children from the school back to their homes and had the opportunity to be welcomed in, sit with the families, and learn about their lives and see how they live. After returning to the school and visiting a couple of grade levels we had a good dinner at a local restaurant, Java House. Then returned to the guest house to get some much needed sleep.
