Day 2: Sunday Funday!

We woke up and had a wonderful breakfast prepared for us by our host Hector who is a chef! The tropical fruit juices and Cuban coffee helped wake us up….as well as the chickens that quacked at the break of dawn!! We got dressed in our Sunday best and headed to church! Pastor Pavel and his congregation welcomed us with open arms and cheek kisses! We worshipped in Spanish and listened to the sermon in Spanish! Our PPM translator helped us know what was being said at all times. Pastor Pavel even got Cody up to charade something as part of his message! Jade helped read the scripture verse in English translation! The kids of the community and church all gathered for the afternoon where they learned that their citizenship is in heaven! We gifted the kiddos candies, bracelets, stickers, slimy goo toys etc! They loved it! We played potato sack races and soccer ball tummy races! We sang songs with wacky motions to familiar tunes like “Father Abraham had many sons, many sons had Father Abraham…..”! We played shared the love of Jesus and the joy in the room was so evident! After hours of high energy loving on the kids, we were gifted with replenishing coconut water from coconuts! A member of the church scaled a tree, cut down 20+ cocounts, loaded up his truck, brought them to the church and started chopping them open with his machete and handing them out to us! Lunch and Dinner today was had at a local church member’s house where they cooked us rice, beans, ground chicken and sweet potatos on their outdoor charcoal kitchen setup! For desert, they served us a wonderful jelly chopped fruit desert with cheese! We were told that these wonderful cooks would be our cooks for lunches and dinners all week! We are so thankful for all their hospitality and smiles! They are truly servants of Christ that balance the Mary and Martha aspect of hosting! They get the work done but they also interact with us and truly love on us!
