Day 4: Safeway and Yellow Sheds

“Even through hardships, I serve the Lord.” - Lexi
“God know who you are and where you’re going.” - Elena
“Titus 1:13,15: Firmly speak the truth.” - Callie, Lina, and Gracie

What a beautiful day! We spent the morning at the Safeway near the church. This was the first day the student noticed a distinct increase in rejection to their outreach. While they faithfully pursued prayer over many they encountered, the rate of rejection in forms of “No thanks,” “Please don’t,” and “I don’t need prayer” began to shock the team. Up until this morning, many students had noted how many people were eager to hear them out or at least kind enough to participate in prayer with them. This morning was a totally different temperature. However, the Lord was merciful on this Ash Wednesday. Many students encountered other believers who were encouraging to them in their efforts. The students noticed that those encountered continued to breathe new life in their efforts in the midst of rejections.
At lunch a few of the team members were able to pop into the women’s bible study and pray over their meeting! Awesome!
In the afternoon, our groups split up to work in a few locations. Elena and Lexi served selflessly in the home of a church member, cleaning a bathroom that hadn’t been cleaned in over two years. Gracie and Jacob went to the home of the president of the church board who was unable to attend church on Sunday due to illness. They were able to pray over him and his current needs. Hearing his testimony was an encouragement that the Lord redeems ALL circumstances. The remaining students work diligently on painting the sheds owned by the church. Unfortunately, the sheds had been vandalized in the past and were in need of some love. Now, they are clean, bright, and YELLOW! How fun!
This evening our students were blessed with a devotion from Pastor Edwin remembering Ash Wednesday. The students had thoughtful consideration about this season of Lent and the time leading up the Resurrection Sunday. Praise Jesus for His sacrifice and our salvation! After the devotion, we had a bonfire with s’mores and cookies from a church member. We ended with an incredible time of worship declaring Jesus’ name and praising Him for all He has done. The Lord knew this moment would arrive with each of us here for such a time as this. What an honor and joy it is to be chosen, equipped, and qualified for Kingdom Work by our Savior!

One more full day! Please continue to pray for our celebration dinner as we wait anxiously to welcome anyone whom we encountered in our ministry work.
