Day 3: Wind Chill at Walmart

“People are interested in hearing what we have to say.” - Natalie
“God has allowed me to open up and speak in a lot of ways that are hard for me.” - Angel
After this morning’s devotion prepared us to have hearts of service, we loaded up and went to the Walmart Supercenter to pray and invite people to church. Immediately, the wind chill presented a major discomfort for the students to battle as they worked to focus on the goal of the morning: to love people and invite them to know Jesus. After an hour in the parking lot, the group left their bibles and blankets in the vans and moved indoors with a goal to invite as many people to encounter Mountain View as possible. They’ve noticed a distinct receptiveness that has encouraged them greatly. Many students began inviting people to our celebration dinner on Thursday evening as an opportunity to bring them into the community. Can we take a moment to celebrate the selflessness of these students? How incredible is it that their first instinct is to use the dinner meant to uplift, encourage, and celebrate them as a doorway to bring people into the House of the Lord! We’re continuing to pray that people come, but we are confident that the work will not return void. Praise the Lord for seeds faithfully planted!
“I became closer with a lot of people today, and it’s been cool to see how God works through everyone.” - Lina
One encounter of note was a Walmart employee who made a specific point to reach out to the students she came across and encourage them in their work. She said “I’ve been a Christian since I was 9 years old. I see Jesus in you. I know what you’re doing is hard, and I’m so thankful for you.” Please join us in praying for the Lord’s blessing over Miss Judy. We pray that the Lord uses her gentle spirit to reach out to more young women to disciple toward Christ!
“The Lord is teaching me to trust Him and get out of my comfort zone.” - Hanns
While the wind chill kept many people indoors, we made the most of our day. Upon returning to the church we continued our projects from Day 1. Many team members worked outside scraping, sanding, and preparing the window frames for new paint. Others worked indoors cleaning the sanctuary, deep cleaning the kitchen, dusting, and disinfecting the nursery. We pray that as we clean these items the Lord prepares the church for new life and activity to be brought into the spaces. The Lord prepares the way!
During debrief, the students spent time uplifting one another and celebrating the boldness of their team. Pray with us that the student remain receptive to the words, grace, and mercies of the Lord as He pours into them to pour out to this community. May we continue to lay our pride at the Cross and rest in the assurance of our salvation as the Lord uses us in this kingdom work. May the Lord remind us that He is capable of abundantly more than we are on our own. Pray with us that the students remain well after spending so much of the day in the cold. Ask that the Lord heal them of any premature sickness and renew their strength as we continue tomorrow.
“I’ve seen how we’re planting seeds, and even those who turn away there’s something planted there.” - Jacob

Ephesians 3:20 “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”
