“Today the Lord taught me that when you’re bold and list to Him He uses you in more ways than you would think.” - Gracie
This morning began with a time of devotion lead by Mr. Pitts. The discussion was focused around the question “What is service?” and what it means to have a servant heart. It was the an awesome foundation to lay before immediately jumping into ministry work nearby.
We went as a group to the a strip mall near the church. The students went between arc Thrift Store, Dollar Tree, and Mi Pueblo Market speaking with people, praying over them, and offering invitations to church. They even had Bibles in English and Spanish that they handed out as people became receptive to them. All of the leaders have been absolutely floored by the maturity, care, and boldness of the students as they evangelize! A few students used their language skills as they spoke Spanish with many of the people they encountered. They even invited many to join us on Thursday for our final celebration dinner! We’re looking forward to that night and praying that many people encountered will join us.
“I thought this trip would be hard, but God has shown me that he has a purpose here.” - Luke
We spent the afternoon doing maintenance work to help bless Mountain View Lutheran Church. The students scraped paint from window frames, cleaned window blinds and glass, vacuumed, and even helped Pastor Edwin replace the sticker on the Church. They worked hard in the Colorado sun for 4 hours, and it absolutely is paying off! We’re excited to see how we can continue to bless this church and Pastor Edwin this week.
Kari and Fran prepared an outstanding Taco Monday feast for the team, and the students loved trying the Conchas and De La Rosa mazapán for dessert.
Fran lead group devotion and debrief after dinner. In the evenings, we’re using devos provided by PPM to guide our discussions. As is the Lord’s way, our devos align so well with the focus of the week. The themes this week surround “Relationships.” So much of our time this week is spent being intentionally relational with the new people we meet as well as our leaders and team members. Tonight’s focus was “Relationships with Mentors”. Many students mentioned parents, teachers, and spiritual leaders who mentor them in this season. What a blessing it is to walk this path of sanctification with Christ-like leaders who are so faithful!
In a hilarious turn of events, there was an area power outage right before lights out. Kari specifically praised the maturity of the students when this happened as they quickly and quietly began to care for one another by handing out fuzzy socks and extra blankets to make sure everyone was warm enough before heading to bed. Shout out to Annalise for carrying blankets to every room to make sure all of her team members were prepared! We’re thankful the power returned an hour later, but we’re also resting in the assurance that no matter what happens to our basic comforts, the Lord is good and His plans never fail.
“I love this trip.” - a quiet voice in the powerless dark.
Psalm 33:11 “The plans of the Lord stand forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations.”
