Team North Carolina completed their final service day today, and what a day it was! Our last service day is also Noah B’s birthday! Happy Birthday Noah!
Mr. Timmer’s team headed over to Samaritan’s Feet for a day of packing shoes for children who don’t have any at home. They learned that in the United States 1 in 5 children do not have shoes to wear to school. As they learned the facts and packed their boxes they were blessed to meet the CEO and Founder of the organization, Manny. He came to the warehouse to meet the crew and get to know them. Team Timmer packed close to 3,000 shoes during their time at Samaritan’s Feet. As they were working, Manny told Mr. Timmer that he wished our volunteers would volunteer to train other volunteers on how to volunteer. They were incredibly blessed by the hard work and excellence Team Timmer displayed today. They told Johanna of Praying Pelican that their team was going to get a full night’s sleep, for the first time in weeks, because the work had been done and done well today. Praise the Lord!
Miss Jones and Miss Ward’s teams headed back for a day of painting at Hope Haven! We were assured a couple of rooms to paint. Chrystian spent the day with us again as we painted. He was blown away by the excellence our students displayed in their work. Another group was on the Hope Haven campus today doing community service. They were painting a room and ended up leaving early and doing a poor job with their painting. Team NC stepped in and finished the other group’s work with excellence as well. What an amazing blessing to see the difference between people working as unto the Lord, and people just there for “the hours.”
During his lunch break, Chrystian ran out and picked up a slice of pizza for Noah for his birthday! He said it was a slice of Charlotte. Chrystian and Sheila also celebrated Noah with a sweet birthday card. Isn’t it amazing how the places where we show up to bless others and serve in the name of Jesus tend to bless us right back in more ways than we can count?
While our best painters knocked out an additional living room in their last 90 minutes, the boys cleaned out the light fixtures and changed light bulbs all over the campus. After we finished our work we prayed over Mr. Chrystian and the team at Hope Haven. The relationships we built during our three days at Hope Haven are unforgettable! Leaving the campus took a half hour because everyone had a hard time saying goodbye! Most of the kids on team NC were ready to skip our “Fun Day” tomorrow in favor of working again at Hope Haven!
Miss Vivian, a woman from our host Providence Baptist Church, blessed us with some delicious pizza from a local shop! After worship and devotions, we celebrated Noah’s birthday with cupcakes, ice cream and a birthday banner and song!
Our service days have offered some tremendous growth opportunities to students and leaders alike. It is incredible to see God transform our team and bless the work we have done! Serving in and of itself has been a joy and we have been blessed to hear and see some of the tangible impact the team has made in Charlotte in the last few days! Praise God for calling us to serve and for the ministries and non-profit organizations carrying out these important works in Charlotte! As Mr. Streeter always says “You are blessed to be a blessing.” Praise God for opportunities to carry out that mission and Kingdom work!
