Our teams once again split into 2 groups today! Mr Timmer and Miss Jones returned to serve our friends at Hope Haven. The girls finished the windows on the property while the boys did some yard work. After lunch, the whole team came together and worked on clearing out the weeds, dead plants and even tilling soil for Hope Haven’s Adopt a Bed Gardening program. After clearing out the garden plots the team gathered for a time of prayer over Hope Haven and Miss Sheila. The impact our team is having in a small community as they work with excellence serve others, and pray for people is powerful.
Just like Jesus talking with the woman at the well, our kids have treated all of the residents with dignity, respect and love as they speak to people, and minister through service.
Miss Ward and her team headed to Church of God Children’s Home. Upon arriving they cleared out the Children’s Development center, particularly their gym space. They tore down platforms and black drape and vacuumed the whole gym space. They then followed our leader Mr. Don over to the shed and cleared everything out of it, rocking chairs, broken shelves and even a large metal shelving unit. After lunch, the students had the opportunity to pray over Don, Pepper and the rest of the team at Church of God Children’s Home. We also had the opportunity to visit one of the houses where Children stay and do some cleaning and organization for them before heading back to the Missions Center and writing more encouragement notes for our community.
Church of God Chidlren’s Home is a private, non-profit, Christian organization that serves as a positive and safe living environment for at risk children placed by North Carolina Department of Social Services. They have a foster care program, a residential program for kids with house parents who live on the property, and even a service for teens mothers and their babies.
Tonight we debrief after our delicious Chipotle dinner, and will enjoy worship and devotions in the chapel as we prepare to serve the community of Charlotte again tomorrow!
