Day 3: Service Day: Charlotte Family Housing and Hope Haven

Today, Team North Carolina headed out into Queen City for a day serving the community. We split into two teams. Miss Jones and her team started their service heading to Walmart with Johanna. They were given a budget and told that we were packing snack bags for the teens who lived at Charlotte Family housing! The team took their job seriously, stuck to their budget, got the best snacks they could and packed 45 bags for Charlotte Family Housing. Charlotte Family Housing serves the invisible homeless families in the community who are experiencing displacement and external trauma. They help these families by providing a safe place while they find other affordable housing options. After delivering their bags to Charlotte Family Housing, the team stayed to help with cleaning and maintenance on the property. After returning to the Mission Center, Miss Jones’ team created encouragement cards to be passed out to the residents as well.

Mr. Timmer and Miss Ward took their teams to Hope Haven to serve with the maintenance team on the property. Mr. Timmer and the boys served Hope Haven through weeding, edging, power washing and generally making the property look beautiful. They worked hard and left the property looking wonderful. Miss Ward, Katie from Praying Pelican and the girls went and scrubbed the vinyl siding on the walkways around the property and then cleaned the windows, and doors for the community. They worked diligently and were greatly appreciated by the residents.

After a great day of service, we returned to the Mission Center and enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by City Barbecue! We headed out to our debrief by the pavilion and then the leaders surprised the students with a trip to Golden Cow Creamery. We then returned for a time of worship and our evening devotions in the Chapel! McKay volunteered to lead the group devotion tonight! She did an excellent job leading the teaching on Nehemiah!

After devotions we settled in to an evening of rest as we look forward to the excitement tomorrow’s day of service will bring!
